I have back pain(lower and neck) and apparently (my mom said this is one of the reasons for back pain is because my i lean forward (something to do with my pelvis). I got to a chiropractor and i get massages(rarley..but i am getting one soon...goody goody gum drops)but my back still hurts. So someone suggested that i try yoga so i am going to classes but i wanted to try a little before i go. Does anyone have some suggestions that are good for my back and neck?

Yoga is terrific for the back. When I'm not doing it, I have trouble again. Once I start back up, I''m so much better. Good luck!

Yoga actually cured my lower back pain! I'd definitely recommend getting a book like David Swenson's Ashtanga Yoga, or Beryl Bender Birch's Power Yoga (both are available through Amazon, or are most likely at Barnes & Noble or Borders).

Here are some poses that help my lower back:

Any forward bends, such as , Head to Knee, or Seated Straddle.

Hip openers are great too like Wide Squat, Pigeon, and Double Pigeon. I like to hang out in these poses for a couple minutes.

Twists feel great too such as Twisting Extended Side Angle.

Backbending poses like Camel might feel good, but I wouldn't recommend pushing yourself too hard, and always follow a backbending pose with a forward bend.

My back pain started when I was 13 and continued for many years. I went to a chiropractor, which helped a little, but he wasn't getting to the root of the problem which was - I needed to get off the couch and move my body!

I started going to yoga classes twice a week at first and then moved it up to 3 times a week. The consistent stretching and strengthening of all my muscles - especially the poses that targeted my belly, hips, and back - eliminated all my back pain within a few weeks. I hope it works for you too!

Sun Salutation A and Sun Salutation B are also great.
